Environmental Health Division -- Tips for Completing Well and/or Septic Permits
 

To avoid delays, revisits and the possibility of evaluation of the wrong property, your application must include the following information and be accompanied by a check or money order for the correct fee amount.

You must supply the following INFORMATION:

  • property tax number - may be obtained from your property tax bill or receipt, Township Office, or County Equalization Office
  • street address - may be obtained from your Township Office, County Equalization Office (Benzie), or County Planning Department (Leelanau)
  • number of bedrooms (include bedrooms to be completed in the future), number of bathrooms, and whether or not the home will have a garbage disposal

You must supply a SITE PLAN that shows:

  • location of building, including configuration and dimensions
  • location and elevation of walkout, if applicable
  • measurements to all lot lines
  • driveway location
  • proposed location of your sewage system and well, if you have a preference
  • location of neighbor's sewage system and well, if known

Complete this field work PRIOR to our site visit:

  • mark lot corners and lot lines
  • stake the house location - four stakes that encompass the building area is sufficient 
  • Miss Dig (800-482-7171) MUST be called and site flagged prior to our arrival
