Immunizations are one of the best ways to prevent diseases and keep your family healthy. At the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department, we offer routine vaccines for all ages, regardless of your insurance status. Appointments for vaccination are available weekly in both our Benzie and Leelanau locations.
COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older in the United States for the prevention of COVID-19. There is currently no FDA-approved or FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine for children younger than age 6 months. CDC recommends that people stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccination. There is no preferential recommendation for the use of any one COVID-19 vaccine over another when more than one recommended and age-appropriate vaccine is available.
People recently vaccinated should wait two months before getting an updated vaccine. Those who have recently had a COVID infection can wait up to three months before getting an updated vaccine. Children 6 months to 4 years old who have not received a COVID vaccine are advised to receive a primary series with two Moderna doses, or three Pfizer doses. The doses should be from the same manufacturer. (BLDHD does not offer Pfizer vaccines).
Keep your child up to date on immunizations. Some are required to go to school or daycare.
*Families seeking non-medical immunization waivers for childcare or school entry must call 231-882-4409 ext 3 to schedule an appointment for an in-person meeting with a Health Department Staff Nurse. Waivers are now completed in the MCIR system.
