Harm Reduction Program

The Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department, through funding from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), offers a Harm Reduction Program.

The goal of the Harm Reduction Program is to reduce the harm of injection drug use by:

Providing clean needles and safe disposal of used needles
Offering testing and access of treatment for sexually transmitted and bloodborne diseases such as hepatitis B and C, syphilis , gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV.
Linking SSP participants to treatment programs
Assisting SSP participants to community resources to meet basic needs
Providing Narcan to reduce the risk of overdose deaths

How does Narcan work?

We're thrilled to have a life-saving program aimed at combatting opioid overdoses in our community. Our Narcan boxes, strategically placed in areas, contain this vital medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose. Together, we can make a difference and save lives.
